Log and Pictures, April 13, 2005

We have no other children to compare Andrew and Owen to, so we have no notion of what might be considered "normal". Andrew managed to hold his bottle (briefly) at ten days. Andrew and Owen both push off from you when you try to burp them on your shoulder and look around. They've been doing that since they were a week old. Andrew can tell the difference between strangers and people he knows.

They are both very good with going out. We take them almost everywhere. If we time it right (i.e. feed them before we leave), then they will sleep in the car and frequently continue to sleep when we arrive at our destination.

Last night (Saturday), we had a miracle. They slept for a straight five hours! (If you don't have kids, that doesn't make any sense. Parents, on the other hand, will be nodding their heads in appreciation). I don't know if we have enough good karma to see a repeat of that or if they were just teasing us.

Both of the boys are fascinated with the computer. For various reasons, they have both ended up on our laps while we've been on the computer. They stare at the screen.

The boys have been helping me write my book (Palm and Treo Hacks for O'Reilly and Associates). Because the boys both have a bit of stomach trouble, they have to sit upright for 20 minutes after eating. I use those opportunities to either sketch out the next bit of the book or to actually do some writing. The next major deadline is April 18. I have to have the full draft done by then. I get another three or four weeks to polish it and make any necessary changes in response to the technical reviews.

Andrew and Owen have both started figuring out how to suck their thumbs and fingers. It is still more of a "stick everything in your mouth and start chewing", but at least they are getting the idea. And it is deliberate--they will keep trying until they get fingers or a thumb in the mouth.

Andrew and Owen are working on crawling. They aren't making much progress yet (only five weeks old, after all), but Andrew managed to squirm his way forward a couple of inches yesterday. Andrew is definitely getting frustrated that he can't move himself forward. Owen is a little more content to just hang out.
